How are you managing your Autodesk materials? An often overlooked feature in the Autodesk design suites is the ability to save materials in an external library file. Is my view on a sheet? How do you know if they are already on a sheet somewhere in the set? I have been creating a lot of Revit Family Content lately. I just discovered an odd little item. Not sure there is a practical application, but I thought I would post it here anyhow. So when you want to label a dimension, to apply a parameter you have to make sure that the dimension only has two witness lines — in other words, a single dimension, not a multiple string.

Well, that is the standard conventional wisdom. Turns out you can label a multi-segment dimension… but again, I am not sure.

More Project Soane. Here is a follow-up post to my last post on Project Soane. The modeling phase is done. The Rendering phase begins soon! Have you heard about Project Soane? It also has a nice glossy color insert, with some example projects. It might be a good idea to obtain one for your practice, particularly if you have some staff who are just beginning to delve into Revit.

Starting on page , there is a Tips and Tricks section that includes some very useful information, including how to prepare CAD files for import in an intelligent and controlled manner. The books and tutorials were great. For me, as long as Autodesk concentrates more on making Revit a better product than developing new “tutorials” is fine with me. With a firm of and over Revit seats – we have new folks learning all the time. We have our in house training, but it is nice to sit them down with a tutorial set to get them acquanted to Revit. Autodesks has the material, they just need to make it current. You don’t want to know what our revolving subscription fees are.

I would think it would be included at that price. The little revit videos really don’t show much. But, at the mercy of the big machine I guess. Like you said, at least the product is good, just disappointed that the tutorials went away.

I’m totally with you on this one. Fine if you want to add “videos” but don’t take away something as useful as the self paced tutorials. In the first chapter it explains that the Tutorials are based on a Building “Jenkins Music Building in Kansas City” and invites the user to the appropriate Sybex download page where data from chapters of the book can be downloaded.
